InnoVent founded InnoWind in 2008 with the aim of promoting our wind farm operations in other countries. Thanks to a number of circumstances, InnoWind launched its African operations in the South African renewable energy market.
« When we started our development project in South Africa, we were the only ones doing it. Nobody had even thought about the exceptional potential for wind power in this country, as the price of fossil fuels was so low… » Grégoire Verhaeghe
Building on his experience in France and with the help of his teams of engineers and sales professionals, InnoWind made the most of its assets to develop a number of wind farms quickly and efficiently in South Africa, and make a name for themselves in the rest of Africa at the same time.
InnoWind has developed more than 600mW of wind farms in South Africa over three years. In December 2011, EDF EN became the majority stakeholder in the company with 80% of the shares of InnoWind South Africa, and we are currently in the process of building the first 104mW stations for our project portfolio. Next came the creation of InnoSun in Namibia and the development of several wind and solar energy projects across Africa: Kenya, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Niger and others.
Since 2012, we have been undergoing an intense development phase. Following our success in South Africa, we have just obtained our first permits to build energy projects in Namibia, Morocco, Kenya and Senegal (see our project map)
